The most basic things to take into account are:

- Trailers up to 750 kg of MAM.
                - Technical information sheet
                - Insurance (supplement to the vehicle's insurance).
                - No need to pass the ITV

- Trailers of more than 750 kg of MAM.
                - Red license plate
                - Technical information sheet (same as for cars)
                - Registration certificate
                - Independent insurance to the vehicle
                - Necessary to pass the ITV (roadworthiness test)

Frequently asked questions:

From how many kg of MAM must a trailer be registered to obtain a red license plate?
- From 750 kg of MAM

Do I have to hire an insurance for my trailer?
- For trailers of less than 750 kg, there is no need for any insurance other than the one we have contracted for the car. YOU DO HAVE TO NOTIFY THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO INCLUDE THE TOWING AND HITCHING OF THE TRAILER (there is a small supplement to be paid).
- Trailers over 750 kg do need a separate insurance (the cost of this is between 30€ and 60€ per year).

What legal forms do I have to fill out after buying a trailer?
- None. The manufacturer has the obligation to deliver the documentation of the trailer legalized and fully homologated. If the trailer is LESS THAN 750 kg of MMA it is not necessary to pass it through traffic nor is it obligatory to have the yellow and blue triangle in the vehicle. IF THE TRAILER IS OVER 750 kg of MAM, IT MUST BE REGISTERED IN TRAFFIC AND GIVEN A RED LICENSE PLATE by presenting the documentation of the trailer, the purchase invoice and the D.N.I. or N.I.F. (Spanish tax identification number).
